Relocating a Gas Range in a Tallmadge Kitchen Layout
Opening up a kitchen often means the range ends up somewhere new: across the room, on a peninsula or in the middle of an island. K & K Plumbing plans and runs the gas to the new location, caps the old one properly, and installs your range so it is safe and practical to cook on. Tallmadge is about 23 miles from our East Canton shop, near Munroe Falls, Stow and Cuyahoga Falls.
Why Range Moves Need Early Planning
A range location ties together gas, electrical, ventilation, clearances and traffic flow. Decide on the exact range model before cabinets are ordered, because the gas inlet location, the cutout and the clearance requirements all come from its installation manual. Moving the range after the cabinets are set is far harder than planning it in.
Many Tallmadge homes are ranches and split-levels built in the decades after the Second World War, often with a basement or crawlspace below the kitchen. That usually makes it practical to run new gas piping underneath and bring it up exactly where the new range needs it.
Steps in a Range Relocation
Here is how we approach moving a range in a Tallmadge kitchen:
- Confirm the new location against the range's manual for gas inlet position and clearances
- Size the new branch line for the range's input and the distance from the existing piping
- Run the line through the basement or crawlspace and bring it up through the floor or a wall
- Install an accessible shutoff valve and new appliance connector at the new spot
- Remove the old branch or cap it properly at the source, not just at the old wall
- Pressure test the new piping and leak test every connection
- Set the range, fasten the anti-tip bracket, level it and light every burner, the oven and the broiler

Islands and Peninsulas
Ranges can go on islands, but they bring a few extra considerations. Freestanding ranges are designed with a finished backguard that does not suit an island, so most island installs use a slide-in range with an island trim kit or a model its manufacturer approves for that position. The anti-tip bracket still matters, and there is no back wall to mount it on, so it is fastened to the floor.
Ventilation is the biggest island challenge. An island hood or downdraft system needs a duct path, and island hoods typically need to be wider than wall hoods to capture rising heat and grease. Overhead clearance from the cooktop and seating overhangs need thought too, since a range at a seating island puts people close to the burners.
Ranges, Cooktops and Mixed Layouts
Some homeowners decide during a relocation that a separate cooktop on the island and a wall oven elsewhere fits the space better than a single range. That choice affects the gas piping as well. Our Tallmadge gas cooktop service covers that layout, while new piping runs are handled by our gas line crew in Tallmadge. For a full kitchen redesign, our Tallmadge remodeling team plans the gas, plumbing and layout together.

Repairs for Ranges Staying Put
Not moving anything? We also repair existing ranges in Tallmadge: ovens that will not light, broilers that only click, weak or yellow burner flames, and connectors or valves that need replacement. Frequently Asked Questions
Can a gas range be moved to a different wall?
Usually, yes. We run a new branch line to the new spot, add a shutoff and connector, and cap the old line properly. Access from a basement or crawlspace makes it simpler.
Can I put a gas range on a kitchen island?
Yes, with a range designed for that position or the proper island trim, a floor-mounted anti-tip bracket, adequate clearances and an island hood or downdraft ventilation.
What happens to the old gas stub?
We remove the unused branch or cap it at its source with a proper fitting, and test it, rather than leaving a capped pipe hidden behind new cabinets.
Does moving the range affect ventilation?
Yes. The hood or downdraft system must move with the range, and the duct path needs planning before cabinets and ceilings are finished.
