Before You Order: Measure and Look Behind the Old Stove

A few minutes behind the old stove can save a lot of trouble on delivery day. Pull it forward gently, without yanking on the gas connector, and take a look.

If you cannot pull the old stove out safely, or the connector looks stiff and corroded, stop there and let us handle it. Moving a stove too far on an old connector is one of the easier ways to start a leak.

• Find the shutoff valve and make sure it turns
• Note where the gas stub-out sits: floor or wall, left or right
• Check for a 120-volt outlet within reach of the new stove's cord
• Measure the opening width, depth and height to the countertop
• Look at the new stove's spec sheet for where its gas inlet is located

How We Coordinate With Your Delivery

There are two common ways to handle it. In the first, we come before delivery, disconnect and cap the old stove, and replace the shutoff valve if needed. The crew takes the old stove away and sets the new one, and we come back to connect it. In the second, we schedule the hookup for after the crew leaves and handle the whole connection in one visit.

Either way, keep the new stove's manual and any small parts bags. Those bags may hold the anti-tip bracket, the regulator or propane orifices, and we need them.

What a Proper Hookup Includes

We do not reuse the old connector. A new flexible connector sized for the new stove goes on, with a gas-approved thread sealant on the threaded joints. We open the gas, purge air from the line and test every joint for leaks with a soap solution and an electronic detector.

Then we slide the stove into place, making sure the connector is not kinked or crushed behind it, and engage the anti-tip bracket. Last, we light every burner and the oven. You should see quick ignition and steady blue flames before we leave.

When the New Stove Does Not Quite Fit

Sometimes the new stove's gas inlet sits in a spot that clashes with the old stub-out, or the valve sticks out far enough that the stove cannot slide flush against the wall. In many Macedonia homes built in recent decades, the fix is simple: relocate the valve or use a different connector configuration.
