Gas Stove Installation and Repair Across Stark County, Ohio

A gas stove only needs a few things to work well: a tight connection, a shutoff you can actually turn, clean burners and a spark or glow that lights the gas on time. K & K Plumbing handles gas stove installation and repair for homes and small commercial kitchens from our East Canton shop, covering Stark County and the surrounding area. If you are not sure whether your stove needs a fix, a new connection or a replacement, we start with a free estimate.

What Our Gas Stove Service Covers

Most calls fall into one of two buckets. The first is getting a new or relocated stove connected safely. The second is figuring out why an existing stove is misbehaving: burners that will not light, an igniter that clicks without stopping, flames that burn yellow, or an odor that shows up when the oven runs.

On the installation side, our gas fitters work from the house piping to the back of the appliance. On the repair side, we diagnose the gas path and the ignition parts, then tell you plainly what is wrong and what it will take to fix. When a fault sits in an electronic control board that only the manufacturer supports, we say so instead of guessing.

  • New stove hookups, including swapping out an old connector for a new code-listed flexible connector
  • Appliance shutoff valve replacement when the old valve is seized, leaking or missing
  • Leak testing of every joint we touch, with a soap solution and an electronic detector
  • Burner, orifice and air shutter cleaning and adjustment for weak or yellow flames
  • Spark igniter, spark module and oven igniter diagnosis
  • Natural gas to propane conversions, and back, using the manufacturer's kit
  • New gas branch lines when a stove moves or a home switches from electric cooking

Signs Your Gas Stove Needs Attention

Stoves rarely quit all at once. They usually give warnings first, and catching them early keeps a small repair from turning into a bigger one. Here are the symptoms we hear about most often in Stark County kitchens.

If you smell gas strongly, skip the checklist. Leave the house, do not flip switches or light anything, and call your gas utility or 911 from outside. Once the utility has made things safe, we can come out to find and repair the source.

  • Constant clicking after the burner lights, or clicking with the knob turned off, which often points to moisture, a spill or a worn spark switch
  • A burner that lights on one side only, or a flame that lifts off the burner and goes out
  • Yellow or orange flames, soot on pan bottoms, or a sharp smell while cooking
  • An oven that takes several minutes to light, or never lights at all even though the igniter glows
  • A faint rotten-egg smell near the back of the stove when nothing is on
  • A shutoff valve behind the stove that will not turn, or no valve at all

Residential Kitchens and Commercial Cooking Spaces

In homes, the work is usually a single freestanding or slide-in stove. The challenges are practical ones: an old brass connector from decades ago, a valve buried behind a base cabinet, or a stub-out that sits in the wrong spot for a new appliance.

Commercial settings such as church kitchens, small restaurants, daycare centers and break rooms have heavier demands. Commercial ranges use more gas and often share a supply with fryers or griddles, so pipe size and pressure matter more. We look at the whole branch, not just the last few feet, and we plan work around your hours so the kitchen is down as little as possible.

How a Gas Stove Job Works With K & K Plumbing

Our process is simple and the same for a quick repair or a full hookup. You contact us for a free estimate. We look at the stove, the connection and the shutoff, then explain the options and the scope. You approve the specifications before any work starts. We complete the job, then do a quality inspection that includes a leak test and a burner-by-burner light check.

We keep the work area neat and treat your home the way invited guests should.

What happens during a hookup

We shut off gas at the appliance or the meter, inspect the existing stub-out and valve, install a new connector sized for the stove, and confirm the stove is level and secured with its anti-tip bracket.

What happens during a repair visit

We start by watching the problem happen. From there we check spark gaps, burner caps, orifices, the oven igniter's current draw and the gas supply pressure before recommending a part.

Options and Materials for Gas Stove Connections

The parts behind a stove are inexpensive compared with the stove itself, so we do not cut corners there. Old uncoated brass connectors, kinked lines and corroded valves are common finds in older Stark County homes, and we replace them rather than reuse them.

Fuel type matters too. Homes on natural gas service and rural properties on propane need different orifices and regulator settings. A stove set up for the wrong fuel burns poorly and can produce excess carbon monoxide. When a stove has to change fuel, we install the conversion kit, adjust the low-flame settings and check the flame on every burner. If your home also needs new piping, our natural gas line team and our propane line service can handle the supply side.

Preparing for Your Appointment and Keeping the Stove Healthy

Before we arrive, clear the area in front of the stove and empty the drawer or storage space underneath. If a new stove is being delivered, keep the manual and any conversion parts that came in the box. Please let us know whether your home uses natural gas or propane when you call 330-875-8003.

Day to day, the best maintenance is keeping the burners clean and dry. Spills that run into the burner ports or spark electrodes are the top cause of clicking and uneven flames. Let parts dry completely after washing, and seat burner caps flat. Once a year, pull the stove out, look at the connector for kinks, and check that the shutoff still turns. A plumbing maintenance agreement includes an annual inspection where we can look at gas appliances along with the rest of your plumbing.

  • Clear clogged burner ports with a straight pin, never a toothpick
  • Keep a working carbon monoxide alarm on every level of the home

Repair or Replace? How We Help You Decide

Many stove problems are cheap to fix. Igniters, burner caps, spark switches and connectors are routine parts. Replacement starts to make sense when the oven safety valve or main control fails on an older unit, when parts are discontinued, or when burners have rusted through. We give you an honest read on which side of that line your stove falls, and if you choose a new one, we can handle the connection. Comparing different appliance styles? Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my gas stove keep clicking after the burner lights?

The most common causes are moisture or food in the burner, a burner cap that is not seated flat, or a worn spark switch on the control knob. Let the burner dry for a day after a spill. If the clicking continues, the switch or spark module may need replacement.

What color should a gas stove flame be?

A healthy flame is mostly blue with a small, defined inner cone. Occasional orange flickers can come from dust. Steady yellow or orange flames, soot, or a lazy, wavering flame point to a dirty burner, a misadjusted air shutter or the wrong orifice for your fuel.

Can I reuse the old connector when I install a new stove?

We do not recommend it. Flexible connectors are designed for one installation, and older uncoated brass connectors can crack at the flare fittings. A new connector is inexpensive and removes a common leak point.

Where is the gas shutoff for my stove?

It is usually behind the stove near the floor, or inside an adjacent base cabinet. On a ball valve, the handle in line with the pipe means open and crosswise means closed. If you cannot find one, we can install a valve where it is easy to reach.
