Shutoff Valves, Supply Lines and Appliance Connections in Tallmadge
Every fixture and water-using appliance in your home depends on two small parts: the valve that shuts it off and the line that feeds it. When either fails, the result is anything from a slow drip to a flooded kitchen. K & K Plumbing installs shutoff valves, supply lines and appliance connections in Tallmadge so every fixture can be isolated quickly and fed reliably.
Why Valves Deserve Attention Before Fixtures
It is common to find shutoff valves that haven't been turned since the house was built. Older multi-turn valves use rubber washers that harden and stick. When someone finally tries to close one, it either refuses to budge or starts leaking at the stem. That usually happens at the worst moment, when water is already on the floor.
Replacing those valves before a problem is cheap insurance. It also makes every future fixture install faster, since we can shut off just the fixture we're working on instead of the whole house.
Valves We Install
Different locations need different valve types. Here is what we typically install and why.
Main shutoff
Plenty of older Tallmadge homes still have a gate valve on the main. Gate valves are notorious for not closing completely once they age. A full-port ball valve closes with a quarter turn and seals reliably.
Fixture stops
Under sinks and behind toilets, we replace multi-turn stops with quarter-turn angle or straight valves. A dual-outlet valve under the kitchen sink can serve both the faucet and dishwasher or a water filter.
Water heater and appliance valves
A shutoff on the water heater's cold inlet and a gas valve within reach let you isolate the heater quickly. Washer valves in a recessed box keep laundry connections tidy and accessible.

Supply Lines and Appliance Hookups
Supply lines are the flexible connectors between a valve and a fixture or appliance. They are easy to forget about, and they wear out. We replace them with braided stainless lines with metal nuts sized to the fixture. Common upgrades in Tallmadge homes include:
- Refrigerator ice maker lines: replacing thin plastic tubing with braided stainless or copper and adding a recessed valve box behind the fridge
- Washing machine hoses: switching from rubber to braided stainless
- Toilet supply lines with plastic nuts, which can crack with age
- Dishwasher supply lines that run under the cabinet and are rarely checked
- Faucet supply lines when installing a new kitchen or bath faucet
Pairing Valve Work With Fixture Upgrades
The best time to replace a valve is when the water is already off for another job. If you're getting a new faucet, add new stops and lines. If a disposal is going in, check the dishwasher connection at the same time. For those fixture-specific jobs, see our faucet installation page for Tallmadge and our Tallmadge garbage disposal service. When a new gas range is part of a kitchen update, our gas range installation team can handle the gas shutoff and connector too.

Know Your Valves, Then Call
Take a few minutes to locate your main shutoff and test the stops under each sink and behind each toilet. If any are stuck, drip when turned or are hard to reach, add them to your list. Tallmadge is about 23 miles from our East Canton shop, near Munroe Falls, Cuyahoga Falls, Stow, Silver Lake and Akron. Every project starts with a free estimate, then your approval of the specifications, then the work and a quality inspection. See our installation services overview for more.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a gate valve and a ball valve?
A gate valve uses a wedge that lowers into the pipe with several turns of the handle and often fails to seal as it ages. A ball valve closes with a quarter turn and seals tightly, which makes it more reliable for a main shutoff.
Why won't my shutoff valve turn?
Usually the internal washer has hardened or mineral buildup has locked the stem. Forcing it can break the valve. It's safer to shut off the main and have the valve replaced.
How often should supply lines be replaced?
Inspect them whenever you're under a sink or behind an appliance. Replace any that show bulging, kinks, corrosion or plastic nuts, and replace them whenever you install a new fixture.
What is the safest ice maker line?
A braided stainless steel or copper line connected to a dedicated valve, ideally in a recessed box. Thin plastic tubing is the most failure-prone option.
