Upgrading Copper Plumbing During Cuyahoga Falls Kitchen and Bath Remodels
Cuyahoga Falls has a big inventory of homes built in the decades after World War II, and many of them are now on their second or third round of kitchen and bathroom updates. The copper behind those walls is often original. When the cabinets and tile come out, it is the cheapest moment you will ever have to replace aging copper, and K & K Plumbing can handle that work alongside your remodel.
Why the Open-Wall Moment Matters
Once drywall, tile and new cabinets go in, getting to the pipes means tearing out finished work. During a remodel, the walls are already open, the water is already off for stretches, and access is about as easy as it gets. Replacing a run of old copper at that point adds relatively little to the project and spares you from opening your new kitchen or bath later for a leak.
We look at the existing copper as soon as the walls are open: the condition of the pipe, the joints, the age and type of valves, and how the lines are supported. If it is in good shape, we leave it and tie in. If it shows corrosion, thin spots or old patchwork, we recommend replacing it while we can.
What We Typically Upgrade in a Remodel
Each of these takes little time with the wall open and makes a real difference to how the new space works for years to come.
- Old copper branch lines feeding the kitchen sink, dishwasher and fridge
- Bathroom supply risers, tub and shower valve connections
- Stuck multi-turn valves swapped for quarter-turn shutoffs
- Properly anchored stub-outs so new fixtures sit square and tight
- Hammer arrestors for dishwashers and quick-closing fixture valves
- Insulation on lines in exterior walls before they are closed up

Moving Fixtures: Rerouting Copper the Right Way
Many remodels move things around: an island sink, a relocated range, a larger shower, or a second vanity. Each move means new supply lines. We extend or reroute copper to the new locations with properly sized pipe, so a second vanity does not starve the first one of pressure, and we add shutoff valves at each fixture.
Some runs are easier in PEX, especially long routes through finished ceilings, and we will tell you where that makes sense. Copper still shines for exposed lines under sinks, short stubs, and connections near the water heater. If your remodel involves new faucet installation in Cuyahoga Falls, we can coordinate the supply lines and fixtures together.
Coordinating With Your Contractor or Doing It in Phases
If a general contractor is running your project, we work with their schedule so the plumbing is roughed in before insulation and drywall and finished after counters and tile. If you are managing it yourself, we help you sequence the work. Either way, we start with a free estimate, you approve the plumbing specifications, and we pressure-test new copper before the walls close and inspect the finished connections at the end.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I replace copper pipes during my kitchen remodel?
If the copper behind the walls is corroded, patched or several decades old, the remodel is the most cost-effective time to replace it. If it is in good condition, we tie into it and leave it in place.
Can the existing copper be reused when I move my sink?
Usually the main branch can stay, and we extend new copper or PEX from it to the new location. The old stub is capped properly or removed so it does not become a dead end.
What plumbing needs to be done before the drywall goes up?
All supply and drain rough-in, valve bodies for tubs and showers, stub-outs for every fixture, and a pressure test of the new lines. Insulating pipes in exterior walls should happen at this stage too.
Do new fixtures need new shutoff valves?
It is a good idea. Old multi-turn valves often seize or leak once disturbed. Quarter-turn shutoffs at each fixture are inexpensive and make future repairs easier.
