Propane Line Installation for New and Recently Built Hartville Homes
Hartville and the surrounding Lake Township countryside, about 13 miles from our East Canton shop, keep adding homes on larger lots where natural gas mains do not reach. That makes propane the default fuel for many new houses between Hartville, Randolph and Mogadore. K & K Plumbing plans and installs propane piping in Hartville for new construction and for owners finishing out recently built homes.
Getting Gas Piping Into the Build Schedule
In new construction, gas piping is roughed in after framing and before insulation and drywall. Missing that window means fishing pipe through finished walls or running it exposed in places you would rather not see it. We coordinate with your builder so the interior piping goes in at the right moment and passes its pressure test before the walls close.
The yard line usually waits until the final grade is close, so heavy equipment does not crush it. Your propane supplier sets the tank, and we connect the line once their equipment is in place.
Above-Ground or Buried Tank
This decision belongs to you and your supplier, but it shapes the piping. An above-ground tank is simpler and cheaper to set, and easy to inspect. A buried tank leaves only a dome lid showing, which many owners prefer on a landscaped lot. Either way, the tank must meet the supplier's distance rules from the house, property lines and ignition sources.
Once the location is chosen, we plan the shortest sensible route to the house, keeping the line clear of the septic system and leach field, which are common on rural lots out here. The yard line is typically polyethylene gas pipe with a tracer wire so it can be located years from now.

Interior Layouts: Trunk Lines and Manifolds
There are two common ways to distribute gas inside a house. A traditional trunk-and-branch system runs a larger main line through the basement with smaller branches teeing off to each appliance. A manifold system brings gas to a central distribution point, then runs individual CSST lines to each appliance, each with its own valve at the manifold.
Manifolds make adding appliances later straightforward and let you shut off one appliance from a single location. Trunk systems in black iron are rugged and well suited to long, open basements. We often combine the two, using black iron for the main and CSST for branches that wind through finished space.
- Furnace and water heater in the mechanical room
- Range or cooktop in the kitchen island
- Dryer in a first-floor or second-floor laundry
- Fireplace or log set in the great room
- Stub-outs for a future generator, grill or garage heater
Bonding, Testing and Turn-On
CSST must be electrically bonded to the home's grounding system to reduce the risk of damage from a nearby lightning strike. We install the bonding clamp and coordinate with your electrician so it is connected properly.
Before drywall, the interior system gets a pressure test. After the yard line is in and the supplier brings the tank into service, we purge the lines, light each appliance and verify burner operation. You get a walk-through of every shutoff before move-in.

Already Moved In?
If you bought a newer Hartville home and want to add appliances the builder left out, we can tie into existing capped stubs or extend the system. Common requests include a gas cooktop for a Hartville kitchen or fireplace gas logs in Hartville. We also repair leaks and replace regulators on systems of any age. Frequently Asked Questions
When should I call about gas piping for a new house?
As soon as the floor plan is set. We rough in interior piping after framing and before insulation, so getting on the schedule early prevents delays and avoids cutting into finished walls.
Is a buried propane tank better than an above-ground one?
Neither is better in every case. Buried tanks are less visible; above-ground tanks are simpler to set and inspect. Your supplier can explain the tradeoffs, and we pipe from whichever you choose.
Can you leave room for a generator I might add later?
Yes. We size the main line for future loads and leave a capped stub where a generator line will go, so adding one later does not require replacing pipe.
How do you keep the yard line away from my septic system?
We locate the tank, leach field and other buried items before planning the route, and keep the gas line a safe distance from them. Ohio's 811 service marks public utilities before digging.
