Kitchen features that need planning before cabinets arrive

The features people love most in a remodeled kitchen are usually the ones that require plumbing behind the scenes. Each one has to be roughed in at the right height and location before cabinets and backsplash go in, so we sit down with your layout early.

Pot filler

A wall-mounted faucet over the range saves carrying heavy pots of water across the room. It needs a cold water line run inside the wall behind the cooktop at the right height, plus an accessible shutoff. Since it has no drain, the faucet should have a reliable double shutoff at the spout.

Island prep sink

A second, smaller sink in the island lets two people cook without crowding. Island sinks require a drain run under the floor and a venting solution that works without a wall. We confirm the floor framing and basement access before you finalize the island position.

Beverage or coffee station

A bar sink, refrigerator with water dispenser or plumbed coffee maker needs supply lines and sometimes a drain. Grouping these near existing lines keeps cost and complexity down.

Gas cooking upgrades

Many Fairlawn kitchen remodels move from an electric range to a professional-style gas range or a separate cooktop and wall oven. Larger ranges with several high-output burners need a gas line sized to deliver enough fuel when everything is running. In the bathroom, the most common upgrades we install are double vanities, larger walk-in showers and freestanding soaking tubs. Showers with a rain head, a hand shower and body sprays need a valve system designed for multiple outlets, and enough flow and hot water to run them together.

That last point is where many remodels run into trouble. A large soaking tub or a multi-head shower can drain a standard water heater quickly. We look at your water heater size and recovery rate during the estimate and let you know if an upgrade makes sense.
