Copper Piping for Water Heaters, Boilers and Supply Lines in North Canton
North Canton's well-kept neighborhoods include plenty of homes from the middle of the last century, and many of them still heat with hot water boilers or have copper running to a water heater that has been replaced more than once. Those hot-side connections see the most stress in the whole system. K & K Plumbing repairs and replaces copper heating and supply piping in North Canton, about nine miles from our East Canton shop.
Why the Hot Side Wears Out First
Hot water is harder on copper than cold. Heat speeds up chemical reactions inside the pipe, hot water often moves faster through short runs near the heater, and every heating cycle makes the metal expand and contract a little. Over decades, that adds up to thinning walls at elbows, stressed joints and pinholes, usually within a few feet of the water heater or boiler.
That is why, when someone calls with a leak in a North Canton basement, we often find it on the hot line or near the heating appliance. Fixing it properly means checking the rest of that hot run, not just the spot that dripped.
Water Heater Connections Done Right
Every tank water heater has cold inlet and hot outlet connections, a temperature and pressure relief valve, and often a gas line or venting nearby. When a heater is swapped, the copper connecting it is sometimes reused even if it is corroded, or connected with mismatched fittings that later leak.
- Replacing corroded copper inlet and outlet lines with new pipe
- Installing dielectric fittings to protect against galvanic corrosion at the tank
- Adding or replacing a cold-side shutoff valve that actually closes
- Correcting the relief valve discharge line so it is properly routed
- Re-piping for a new heater location or a switch to tankless

Copper in Hot Water Heating Systems
Boiler systems circulate heated water through copper loops to radiators or baseboard units. These closed loops are filled once and topped off as needed, so they are gentler on copper than open domestic lines, but leaks still happen. Common problems include weeping joints near the boiler, corroded fittings at zone valves and circulator pumps, and baseboard copper damaged during flooring or furniture work.
We repair and replace copper heating loops, re-pipe boiler connections, and help with the piping side of a boiler replacement. On heating work, we drain only the zone we need where valves allow, make the repair, then refill and purge air from the system so the heat comes back quietly. Soldering near baseboards and finished floors is often a good place for flame-free press fittings.
How a North Canton Copper Repair Unfolds
You call or send us a note to set up a free estimate. We look at the leak and the surrounding piping, check the condition of the water heater or boiler connections, and explain the options. Once you approve the specifications, we complete the repair, pressure-test domestic lines or refill heating loops, and do a final quality inspection before we leave.
If what we find suggests the supply piping throughout the house is near the end of its life, we can talk through repiping a North Canton home instead of chasing leaks one by one. For finished basements, additions or a new bathroom, our new plumbing installation service covers fresh copper or PEX runs. The county copper piping page has more on pipe types and fittings.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do copper pipes near my water heater keep leaking?
Heat, faster water movement and constant expansion and contraction wear copper fastest near the heater. A missing dielectric fitting between the copper and the steel tank can also cause corrosion right at the connection.
Can a leaking copper boiler pipe be repaired, or does the system need replacing?
Most leaks in boiler loops are repairable. We cut out the bad section or fitting, replace it, and refill and bleed the system. Replacement only makes sense when the boiler itself is failing or the piping is corroded throughout.
Should I replace the copper connections when I get a new water heater?
If the existing copper is corroded, pitted or connected without proper dielectric fittings, yes. It costs little to replace those short lines while the heater is already disconnected, and it prevents a leak right after the new tank goes in.
Do you work on both gas and electric water heater piping?
Yes. We handle the water piping on both, and for gas units we also handle the gas fitting work, since gas piping is one of our core services.
