Plumbing for North Canton Remodeling Contractors and Their Clients
North Canton's established neighborhoods are full of solid homes from the 1950s through the 1990s that are now getting their kitchens and bathrooms redone. Many of those projects are run by remodeling contractors who need a dependable plumbing sub to move fixtures, rough in new layouts and come back at exactly the right moment for trim. We fill that role, about nine miles from our East Canton shop.
Moving Fixtures: What Is Easy and What Is Not
Remodels get more expensive when fixtures move, and how much depends on what is moving and where. A rough guide for clients and designers:
- Easy: swapping a vanity, sink or toilet in the same spot, or shifting a sink a few inches along the same wall
- Moderate: moving a sink to an exterior wall, which raises freeze concerns, or across the room where the drain can run in the floor below
- Harder: putting a sink in an island, which needs a drain route through the floor and a vent solution that does not rely on a wall
- Hardest: relocating a toilet or shower on a slab, which means cutting concrete, or on a floor where joists run the wrong way
Island sinks and venting
Island sinks are a frequent request. With a basement below, the drain is straightforward. Venting takes more thought, since there is no wall to run a vent up. We use an approved island venting method based on the layout and what the local inspector accepts.
How We Fit Into a Remodeler's Schedule
A kitchen or bath remodel brings the plumber back several times, and each visit has to fit between other trades. The typical sequence:
Missing one of those windows can hold up cabinets, counters or tile for days, so we confirm dates with the remodeler as the job progresses rather than waiting for a last-minute call.
- Disconnect and cap fixtures before demolition, keeping water on to the rest of the house
- Rough-in for the new layout after demolition and any framing changes
- Shower valve and drain set before the tile installer builds the pan or waterproofing
- Temporary reconnection, if needed, so the family has a working sink during the project
- Disconnect for countertop templating and setting, then final trim and leak checks

Gas Ranges, Cooktops and Appliances
Moving from an electric range to gas, or moving a gas range to a new spot on an island, means new gas piping and sometimes a check on whether the existing line can carry the added load. Pot fillers, refrigerator water lines, dishwasher connections and under-sink filters all get roughed in at the same time. Our gas line page covers relocation work.
Fixing Old Problems While the Room Is Open
Opening a kitchen or bathroom wall in a house this age often reveals something that should be fixed: a corroded galvanized branch line, a drain without a proper vent, or an S-trap under a sink. Fixing those during the remodel costs little extra. Anything an inspector would flag can be handled through our code violation repair service.
Homeowners planning a remodel without a separate contractor can work with us directly through our kitchen and bath remodeling service, and fixture swaps or new equipment are covered under plumbing installation. For larger construction work, see our construction plumbing overview.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a kitchen sink be moved to an island?
Usually, yes. The drain runs through the floor to the existing system, and the vent uses an approved island venting method. A basement or crawl space below makes it much simpler than a slab.
Can the family keep using the kitchen during a remodel?
We can often set up a temporary sink connection during the project. The remodeler decides when it fits the schedule.
Who handles the plumbing when the countertops are installed?
We disconnect the sink and faucet for templating and setting, then reconnect, install the new faucet and disposal and check everything for leaks.
Does moving a shower require cutting the floor?
On a slab, yes. On a wood floor it depends on joist direction and the new drain location. We look at the framing before the layout is final.
How far ahead should a remodeler book plumbing for a kitchen job?
As soon as the layout and fixture list are settled. That gives us time to look at the space, price any relocations and fit the rough-in and trim visits into the remodeler's schedule without delays.
