Safer, Easier Fixtures for Aging in Place in North Canton

Small Changes With a Big Impact

Aging in place doesn't have to mean a full bathroom remodel. Many of the most helpful upgrades are fixture swaps that can be done in a day or less, using the plumbing that's already in the wall. The goal is to reduce bending, twisting, gripping and the risk of scalding or slipping.

The upgrades we install most often for North Canton homeowners include:

Toilets That Are Easier to Use

A standard toilet seat sits about 15 inches off the floor. Comfort-height models are closer to chair height, which makes sitting and standing easier on knees and hips. Elongated bowls give a little more room, and a slow-close seat prevents slamming. Faucets and Shower Controls

The controls people touch every day matter as much as the fixtures themselves.

Lever and touchless faucets

Anti-scald protection

Older shower valves can spike in temperature when someone flushes a toilet or runs the dishwasher. A pressure-balancing valve reacts to those changes, and a thermostatic valve holds a set temperature. We can also adjust the valve's limit stop so the handle can't be turned past a safe temperature. Setting the water heater to a moderate temperature adds another layer of protection.

Handheld showers

A handheld showerhead on a slide bar lets a seated bather wash comfortably and makes it easier for a caregiver to help. In many showers it connects to the existing arm with a diverter, without opening the wall.
