PEX Rough-In Work for Louisville Kitchens, Baths and Laundry Rooms
When a Louisville bathroom or kitchen is opened to the studs, the supply lines that go in next will be hidden for a long time. Getting the PEX rough-in right is what keeps the finished room trouble-free. K & K Plumbing handles rough-in for remodels, laundry moves and fixture upgrades in Louisville, only about four miles from our East Canton shop.
Bathroom Rough-In, Fixture by Fixture
Fixture placement is decided before we start, so bring the spec sheets for your valve, faucets and toilet to the planning visit.
Shower and tub valves
The valve body is the heart of the shower. We mount it on solid blocking at the correct depth for the trim you have chosen, connect PEX to the hot and cold inlets with the adapters that valve requires and run a rigid drop to the showerhead. A loose valve or a flexible line to the head causes rattling and makes the trim hard to fit later.
Vanity and toilet
Supply stubs come through the wall at heights that clear the vanity drawers and line up with the toilet's fill valve. We use drop-ear elbows or stub-out brackets anchored to framing so the pipe does not wiggle when someone turns a stop valve.
Kitchen and Laundry Details That Get Overlooked
Moving a laundry upstairs or relocating a sink to an island is easier with PEX because the tubing can follow joists and avoid a lot of extra fittings. Our Louisville bath and kitchen remodeling team can coordinate the whole project if you want one company handling the plumbing side.
- A dedicated cold line and valve for the refrigerator ice maker and water dispenser
- Separate stops for the dishwasher so it can be serviced without shutting off the sink
- A pot filler line anchored securely behind the range wall
- A recessed washer box with quarter-turn valves and a built-in drain connection
- Room in the sink base for a water filter or under-sink water heater if planned
- Hammer arrestors where quick-closing appliance valves can cause banging

Protecting PEX Inside the Walls
Once drywall goes up, any mistakes are hidden. We take a few steps to prevent future damage: steel nail plates wherever tubing passes close to the face of a stud, sleeves through holes in metal framing, gentle sweeps instead of tight bends and supports at regular spacing. Tubing is kept away from recessed light housings and bath fan ducts.
PEX is naturally quieter than copper, and adding insulation around lines in shared walls cuts flow noise further, which is welcome when a bathroom backs up to a bedroom.
Pressure Testing Before the Walls Close
Every rough-in is pressure tested before insulation and drywall. We cap the stubs, pressurize the system and watch the gauge for a set period to confirm there are no leaks. Only then do we tell your contractor the walls are ready. After the room is finished, we return to set fixtures, connect supplies and do a final quality inspection.
For faucet selection and setting, our faucet installation service can help, and new toilets are handled through our toilet installation team.

When the Old Supply Lines Should Go Too
In many Louisville homes, the rooms being remodeled are fed by older galvanized or copper lines in the basement. Connecting brand-new PEX to tired pipe can leave you with a beautiful room and the same old pressure problems. We check the feed lines during the free estimate and let you know if extending the work makes sense. Once you approve the specifications, we schedule rough-in around your contractor's timeline. Frequently Asked Questions
How do you connect a shower valve to PEX?
We mount the valve on solid blocking and use the PEX adapters that match the valve's inlets. The line up to the showerhead is usually rigid and anchored so it does not rattle.
What is a drop-ear elbow?
It is a fitting with a mounting tab that screws to framing. It holds the supply stub firmly in place so it does not move when you turn a valve or attach a connector.
Can PEX supply an ice maker or pot filler?
Yes. We run a dedicated line with its own shutoff so the appliance can be serviced without affecting the rest of the kitchen.
When do you pressure test a remodel rough-in?
Before insulation and drywall go up. That way any issue can be fixed while everything is still exposed.
Will PEX make my plumbing quieter?
Usually, yes. PEX transmits less flow and water hammer noise than copper, and insulating lines in shared walls helps even more.
