Supply lines rerouted through an interior wall in a Navarre home

Rerouting Pipes and Adding Utility Plumbing in Navarre Homes

Navarre, along the Tuscarawas River about 13 miles from our East Canton shop, mixes older village homes with country properties toward Brewster and Bolivar. Many of these houses have additions, crawlspaces and back porches enclosed over the years, and that is where pipes freeze. K & K Plumbing provides plumbing installation in Navarre that reroutes problem lines and adds the practical utility plumbing rural households rely on.

Why the Same Pipe Freezes Every Year

If a pipe freezes once during a brutal cold snap, bad luck may be to blame. If it freezes every winter, the route is the problem. The usual culprits are supply lines inside exterior walls, pipes running through an unheated crawlspace under an addition, and lines feeding a kitchen sink on an outside wall with cabinets that block warm air.

Heat tape and dripping faucets help in a pinch, but they do not solve the underlying problem. Moving the pipe to a warm location does.

  • Kitchen sinks on north-facing exterior walls
  • Laundry or bathroom fixtures in an enclosed porch or addition
  • Lines running through a vented crawlspace
  • Outdoor spigots without frost-proof valves
  • Pipes near an unheated garage wall

Rerouting Lines to the Warm Side

Our goal is to bring supply lines through heated space, such as an interior wall, the basement ceiling or a floor cavity above conditioned space, and up to the fixture from below. Where a line must cross a cold area, we insulate it well and keep the run short. PEX tubing is our usual choice here, because it can expand slightly if it does freeze and is far less likely to split than copper.

Crawlspaces under older additions often have no insulation at all. We can reroute lines out of them entirely or, if that is not practical, insulate and protect what remains. Replacing old outdoor spigots with frost-proof versions closes another common weak point.

Mudroom laundry with utility sink in a rural Navarre house

Mudroom Laundry and Utility Sinks

On country properties, the back door sees mud, barn boots and work clothes. Moving the laundry to a mudroom near that entrance, and adding a deep utility sink, keeps the dirt out of the rest of the house. The plumbing needs hot and cold supply with a washer box, a vented drain sized for the washer, and a sink drain that ties into the same branch.

Many mudrooms sit on slab or over a crawlspace rather than a full basement. That changes how drains reach the main line, and it is exactly why planning the route in advance matters. We also keep these new lines away from exterior walls so the room does not become next winter's freeze problem.

Well Water and Hard Water Considerations

Rural homes around Navarre often draw from private wells, and hard water and iron are common. Mineral buildup affects new washers and water heaters quickly. When we are adding a laundry or reworking supply lines, it is a sensible time to plan treatment. Our Navarre water softener service can tie in at the point where water enters the house. Getting Started

We begin with a free estimate. Tell us which pipe froze and where, or what you want the mudroom to do, and we will trace the existing lines and suggest a better route. Frequently Asked Questions

The pipe under my kitchen sink freezes every winter. Can it be moved?

Usually. We reroute the supply through an interior wall or up from the basement so it stays in heated space, and insulate any section that must cross a cold area.

Is PEX less likely to burst than copper when it freezes?

Yes. PEX can stretch slightly as ice forms, so it is much less likely to split. It is still best to keep any pipe in heated space.

Can a laundry go in a mudroom built on a slab?

In many cases, yes. Drains may need to run through the slab or along a wall to reach the main line, which we plan before any work starts.

What is a frost-proof outdoor spigot?

It is a spigot with its shutoff valve located inside the heated wall, so water drains out of the exposed part when you turn it off. It greatly reduces winter breaks.
